HONG KONG. Swarovski, in association with airport advertising concessionaire JCDecaux Transport, has unveiled a magnificent giant bejewelled hot-air balloon feature for the festive period at Hong Kong International Airport.
Located in the centre of the Arrivals hall, the installation features 3D illusion stickers which Swarovski says provide an “excellent photo-taking site”.
The crystal-adorned air balloon was officially unveiled at a ceremony on 1 December, attended by Korean actress Ms Ha Ji Won.

Swarovski Consumer Goods Business Asia Pacific Senior Vice President Francis Belin said: “For the third consecutive year we are partnering with JCDecaux to provide a Christmas decoration at the airport. Our partnership with JCDecaux Airport has provided a fantastic chance this time to reach out to 65 million travellers. The 15-metre air balloon with product display in the gift boxes brings happiness to people around the world.”
The Austrian crystal company has created a tradition of spectacular Christmas/New Year fixtures over recent years with giant crystal Christmas trees wowing travellers in 2013 and 2014 (see images and YouTube clips below).
In 2013 the company created the tallest Christmas tree ever erected at Hong Kong International Airport, decorated with over a million Swarovski crystals. It featured digital interactive touch screen technology, which let holiday travellers take photos under the 15m tree and create customised e-greeting cards that could be shared via e-mail and social media.
In 2014 it hit even greater heights, creating a unique festive tree again made up with over a million Swarovski crystals, spanning over two levels of the airport. It utilised natural daylight to complement the sparkle from the crystals, causing them to shimmer like stars. Brilliant, in every sense.
