AUSTRALIA. Sydney Airport has this week opened a global tender for consulting partners to support the design and delivery of its A$6 billion (US$3.2 billion) capital works programme, spanning the airport’s full pipeline of infrastructure projects over the next five years.

The initiative reflects the airport’s new procurement framework, replacing its project-by-project model with an integrated delivery approach.
The upgrades are designed to accommodate more passengers, increase efficiency and enhance the travel experience.

As part of its ongoing development programme, Sydney Airport is seeking an architectural and engineering firm to help deliver a landmark project that will connect the T2 and T3 domestic terminals.

One of the airport’s most ambitious projects to date, the T2-T3 terminal development will improve connectivity, boost capacity, enhance efficiency for airlines and support growth.

The T2-T3 link will add new terminal space and 12 swing gates for domestic and international flights.
Integrating international services into the domestic precinct is expected to improve operational efficiency and support Sydney Airport’s goal of 72 million passengers annually by 2045.

The successful firms for the new panel and the T2-T3 terminal project are set to be announced in December, ahead of the public consultation on the terminal expansion’s preliminary draft Major Development Plan.

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton said: “This tender marks an important step in delivering our 2045 Master Plan vision. We’re investing significantly over the next five years and we want to lock in long-term partnerships with world-class firms that understand our operations and our ambitions for service and efficiency.”

Sydney Airport Group Executive, Planning and Delivery Paul Willis added: “This global tender reflects the ambition and sophistication of our upcoming investment programme.
“To put the scale of our infrastructure programme into context we will be submitting more major development applications over the next five years than we have over the last 20.

“Appointing a panel and partnering for the long term will deliver greater consistency and efficiency across our entire pipeline and ensure we get the design excellence and innovation to support Sydney Airport’s long-term growth.” ✈
