ROMANIA. The Government is expected to approve draft legislation by the end of the month allowing the opening of retail shops in the country’s international airports.
The former duty free stores, run by Rick Weil’s EDF Asro, were controversially closed down last year amid legislation banning duty free.
Local reports, as yet unconfirmed, said that public tenders would be called for the retail space. Shops will offer fragrances, cosmetics, liquor, foods, cigarettes, clothes and electronics at VAT free (but not in the case of excisable goods, duty free) prices.
The report said that the VAT free goods will be grouped in 27 categories, which will be considered “export goods”. As a result, customers would pay prices including excises and custom duties for the goods.
Further details will be published as they become available.
