The Moodie Report.com posts a record year as traffic figures continue stellar rise in 2008 – 06/01/09

INTERNATIONAL. The Moodie Report.com registered record website traffic in 2008, generating 1,627,147 page views; up +47% on the previous year and ahead by +265% on 2004 (the first full operating year of the site).

Page views are the most reliable indicator of actual web usage. Each one of those 1,627,147 pages has been physically accessed by a web reader.

Overall website visits reached 699,598 in 2008, a +119.9% increase on 2007 levels, with 457,123 unique users visiting the site – up from 119,310 the previous year, an increase of +283%.

Returning users is another area where The Moodie Report.com continues to develop. On a weekly average basis, returning users increased to 2,118 in 2008 up from 1,553 the previous year, indicating solid growth of our core readership and continued success in converting new users (those visiting the site for the first time ) to regular readers.

In total, readers from 219 countries visited The Moodie Report.com in 2008, led by the UK, US, France, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Canada, India, Spain, Switzerland, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

At the other end of the usage league, the website also welcomed visitors from locations as diverse as Rwanda, the Faroe Islands, Ivory Coast, Palau, Equatorial Guinea and Namibia.

The Moodie Report Publisher Martin Moodie said: “These heartening results confirm our long-held belief that a web and e-mail offer – supported by a lower-frequency, high-quality print product that is accessible online – is the right media strategy for a global industry such as travel retail.

“Collectively The Moodie Report 7 and e-Newsletter, our website and our Digital Print Edition are now clearly the industry’s most widely-read media. And unlike all our competitors, the whole product portfolio is available free of charge.

“That spells a huge advantage in popularity and penetration for our titles – a key factor in the overwhelming electronic and print advertising market share leadership we have established in recent years.

“There has been a profound change in industry reading habits since our launch in September 2002 and we expect it to accelerate in 2009 as readers seek immediate, accurate information on fast-changing market conditions.”

A number of factors have driven the traffic growth, according to Online Content Manager Matt Willey.

“New content, such as the highly popular Moodie Blog and Podcast and new developments such as The Moodie View and the Online Digital Print Edition, have been important. So has the heavy investment we have put into our pictorial coverage, particularly related to brand launches and when visiting airport and store openings,” he said.

“Additionally, the revamped site architecture introduced back in November 2007 has allowed us to implement a thorough search engine optimisation programme – delivering greater and more focused web traffic, increased online visibility for stories and brands, and improved advertiser return on investment. This is now clearly paying dividends with traffic figures and readership levels continuing to grow.”
