UAE. Travelex has opened its new flagship store in Concourse A at Dubai International, with a fresh retail concept designed to provide exposure to the passenger flow and improve interaction with the customers.
Located airside in the A380-purpose-built terminal, the store is the foreign exchange specialist’s fifth at the airport and covers 42sq m. It features a central island with four customer service points at ground level and a shift away from the traditional raised counter and glass style, to minimise any barriers between customers and sales consultants.
It also houses a self-service hub including two foreign currency ATMs and a cash-to-cash machine, as well as a secure back office area. Travelex said it remains the only operator in the Middle East to have deployed cash-to-cash machines.
Facing the oncoming passenger flow is a 3m x 1.6m interactive media wall. Towering six metres above is a barrisol tower with integrated, circular LED signage and Travelex branded signage atop to face the business and first class lounges on the upper mezzanine level as well as Concourse A’s hotel.
Travelex Business Development Director and Head of Retail MEIA Graham Flannery said: “The store has been specifically designed for Concourse A and is a good example of Travelex, working in partnership with Dubai Airports, to develop a concept which utilises the most progressive technology available to deliver a great looking store and, more importantly, a great customer experience.”
He added that the company was committed to the Middle East as a region for growth and that there was “genuine excitement” about opportunities for growth in the region.
The interactive media wall in the store is a world-first for Travelex and is made up of nine 42-inch screens displaying a map of the world. Using bespoke software, the map allows customers to touch on all 21 of the Emirates A380 locations to find information about their destination, This includes currency, places of interest, cost of typical goods, local customs as well as live news and weather feeds.
Meanwhile, the island pod features Samsung Galaxy Tablets embedded into the counter tops, to display customer information and act as an interactive sales tool. They display informational and promotional point of sale collateral in up to seven languages which sales consultants can use to scroll through information on products and services.
Dubai Airports Senior Vice President Commercial Eugene Barry said: “The goal at Dubai Airports is to offer our customers a memorable travel experience, by providing a wide range of commercial services delivered by highly capable operators.
“This latest Travelex initiative at Dubai International has already proven very popular with passengers, and has taken the currency exchange category to a new standard.”
