US troops boost Shannon duty free sales – 05/01/06

IRELAND. American soldiers finishing their tour of Iraq are boosting profits at Shannon Airport’s duty free store.

More than 300,000 American soldiers have flown home via Shannon in 2005 – twice the number who passed through in 2004, according to BBC News Online.

According to the Irish Examiner newspaper, Shannon received more than €27 million (US$32 million) from the US government in 2005.
