AUSTRIA. January passenger traffic rose +8.6% year-on-year at Vienna International Airport, operator Flughafen Wien said, as more people flew to the Middle East and eastern Europe.
The airport said the number of transfer passengers was up +3.9% from a year ago to 342,404.
The airport handled a total of 985,073 passengers in January, while the number of take-offs and landings increased +6.2% to 17,345 compared with January 2004, it said.
Scheduled traffic to Eastern Europe rose +13%, while passenger numbers to the US declined -3.9%. Traffic to the Middle East leapt by +60.9%, the company said.
Due to cancellations following the tsunami disaster, traffic to Asia slid -1.4%.
