AUSTRIA. Vienna International airport operator Flughafen Wien said in a statement passenger traffic fell -1.1% year-on-year in May due to the SARS virus and after effects of the Iraq war. The drop was the same as reported in April.
The airport handled a total 1,041,032 passengers in May and transfer passenger numbers fell -5.9% to 340,310 compared to last year.
“Declines were especially marked in the direction of Asia, down -33%, the Near and Middle East, down -16.1%, and to North America, at -9.5%”, Flughafen Wien said.
January to May passenger traffic overall was up +3.3% from the first five months of last year.
