Viking Line exclusively launches Wolfburn in Nordics in travel retail first

Interest in Wolfburn Single Malt Scotch whisky in Sweden, Norway and Denmark is “intense”

NORDIC REGION. Viking Line will exclusively launch Wolfburn Single Malt Scotch whisky in Nordic markets in a travel retail sector first.

The distribution agreement signed by the two companies will run between 1 May 2016 and 1 May 2017.

It marks the first time a new Scotch single malt brand has launched exclusively in the travel retail sector, claimed the partners.

Wolfburn Distillery Manager Shane Fraser said: “Viking Line carries an amazing range of whiskies onboard their vessels. The customers who travel on their ships are extremely knowledgeable about Scotch whisky, and we are thrilled that there has been such a huge interest in Wolfburn.”

Viking Line said Wolfburn would be a “great addition” to its assortment. Shop Event Manager Kris Harrison commented: “From experience we see that the whisky category in the northern region is strong and constantly growing.

“We believe that quality and uniqueness is key in offering our guests something special while shopping on board. With Wolfburn our guests will not only be receiving a great spirit but an even greater story.”

Commenting on the exclusivity of the travel retail launch, Cask Travel Trade Managing Director Nick Ravenhall said: “Nordic malt whisky fans are always on the lookout for new things in travel retail so why not give them what they want? With a partner who can really make things happen, Viking Line has been the perfect partner to launch Wolfburn in the Nordics.”

Wolfburn Single Malt is Scotland’s most northerly distillery on the mainland. The company noted that Viking Line was a “natural home” for its whisky, given the Viking heritage of its home town Thurso (which translates as “˜Thor’s River’).
