WATCHES & JEWELLERY: Majorica sees rise in “impulse” items

US. Spanish jeweller Majorica unveiled its new logo and packaging concept at Duty Free Show of the Americas last week. All Majorica products now come presented in a distinctive grey gift box with see-through lid which is ideal for airlines. Speaking to The Moodie Report, Majorica general manager North America & Asia Pacific Sanford Roland said: “We are introducing more fashion and colour for our upscale stores and expanding the range of price points. The full launch of our new point of sale, including portable systems will be in Cannes.”

Majorica said it had experienced a big increase in its cruise-related business last year. On the US-Mexico border Duty Free Americas has also been putting more focus on jewellery and watches. “Cruise business has been phenomenal. In that market our sales are more assortment driven, offering something for everyone. We have seen an increase in impulse buying too, at lower price points,” said Roland.
