Whyte & Mackay stamps new identity on Scots roots – 28/11/05

UK. To capture a global market, Scottish drinks company Whyte & Mackay unveiled a new look for its key brands – Whyte & Mackay Scotch whisky, Isle of Jura malt whisky and Vladivar vodka – at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes earlier this month.

The flagship brand, Whyte & Mackay Scotch whisky, has been given a fresh look which the company describes as self-confident, stylish, daring and impressive. Whyte & Mackay says it is “a premium look unlike anything else currently on the market”. Dubbed “the Scotch that the Scots drink”, the whisky comes in a red-and-black dump-shaped bottle bearing the company’s double lions motif.

The brand will be available in a number of references: Special, which will also be available in an iconic Lions Rampant box; The Thirteen in metallic silver livery; Old Luxury 18yo in a black gift carton; Rare edition 22yo with limited availability; and The Oldest 30yo.

The packaging and bottle for Isle of Jura malt whisky has been updated with a monochromatic look for the 10yo. The aged range, including the 16yo, 21yo and Superstition, also feature new, luxury packaging.

Vladivar Vodka, available in the classic Red, Blue and Black lines, incorporates new graffiti designs by Belgian artist Wim. The bottle combines street art elements and at the same time has retained the traditional vodka packaging appeal, according to Whyte & Mackay.

In other news, the Glaswegian company recently gained a high profile by becoming official sponsor of the London Scottish rugby team. In September, the firm signed a three-year sponsorship deal with the team, which also saw Whyte & Mackay Brand Ambassador and former Scotland player Kenny Logan signing up with the club. Leeds United and Hibernian Football Clubs are also on its list of sponsored clubs.
