Wizz enters European market with new store at Dublin Airport

The 80sq m Wizz store in Dublin Airport marks the brand’s entry into the European market

Toy and gadget specialist Wizz has made its debut in the European market with a 80sq m retail outlet in Dublin Airport Terminal 1.

Opened at the end of November 2012 on a trial basis with ARI Ireland, the store is, according to Wizz, the first full toy offer at Dublin Airport for some time. The outlet offers a full range of the company’s toys, gadgets and gizmos aimed at children and “fun-loving adults of all ages”.

Wizz Managing Director Nigel Caddick said: “We’re delighted to have been given this opportunity by the DAA. Once we received the go-ahead to open last year we moved very quickly, up and trading in less than a month after the initial contact. This meant we were able to benefit from the Christmas trade going through the airport.”

ARI Ireland Head of Retail Strategy & Concessions Gerry Crawford said: “Nigel and the team at Wizz performed a remarkable turnaround in setting up the operation so quickly. This allowed us to capture the important Christmas trade. The unit has received a lot of interest from passengers and airport staff alike and initial results have been very promising.”

Caddick added: “We’re very grateful to ARI’s team for going out of their way to help make this project a success. To date, sales have exceeded expectations of both ourselves and the DAA, so we’re delighted.”

The shop offers Dublin Airport’s ‘shop and collect’ service, enabling travellers to buy goods when they leave the airport and collect them on their return.

“This works well for Wizz as it allows us to sell very large products that we wouldn’t normally be able to sell in an airport environment. We’re obviously now hoping that the trial results justify a permanent presence,” Caddick concluded.
