Women in Travel fundraising event for The Smile Train attracts generous prize donations – 30/09/09

INTERNATIONAL. The Women in Travel (WiT) fundraising event for The Smile Train to be held at the TFWA World Exhibition next month has attracted a generous number of prize donations from the travel retail industry.

The event, which will take place on 19 October at 6pm on the Hugo Boss stand (Stand number: Riviera Village RC1), has set an ambitious target of raising US$2,000 for the world’s leading cleft charity.

Although the event is open to women in the duty free and travel retail industry only, everyone can have the chance to win by purchasing a ticket priced at €10 each or two for €20 and get one free.

Prizes include two handbags donated by MCM worth a total of US$1,150; chocolates and confectionery from Nestlé International Travel Retail, Beschle, Cadbury, Ferrero, Godiva, Paton’s, and Lir; beauty and skincare products from Beauty2Market, Dior, Guerlain, La Prairie, and Sunny Touch; sunglasses from Harston Group, Maui Jim, and Kappe; plush toys from Keel and Russ Berrie; as well as fragrances and coffrets from Kaloo and Puig (including the new Prada and Ricci Ricci scents).

Cigars have also joined the pot courtesy of Agio, as well as Pinnacle Summit Selection Ice Apple Wine by Camus, Samsung cameras by Dufri International, wraps from Morgan & Oates, Cerruti watches by Scorpio, Glenffidich 21yo by William Grant & Sons, and Cognac by Rémy Cointreau. Premier Portfolio, Travel Retail Innovations, Goodman Classics and Marco will also be donating various items to the cause.

Latest donors include Butlers Chocolates, Qatar Duty Free, Swarovski and Shiseido.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to stand a chance to win a prize, purchase or reserve your ticket prior to the TFWA World Exhibition Gerry Munday (gerrymunday@mcmworldwide.com) or purchase on the day from the MCM stand (Stand number: Riviera Village RC4)

All current members of WiT are invited to attend the event, along with any one who is interested in becoming part of this growing network of women working in the travel retail industry. Guests will be able to enjoy Champagne sponsored by Duty Free News International, with flutes kindly supplied by Expo Logistics International (ELI).

If you would like more information on WiT, or would like to donate a prize, or confirm your attendance at the event, contact Sarah Branquinho at sarah.branquinho@worlddutyfree.com.

ABOUT THE SMILE TRAIN

The Smile Train is the world’s largest and most effective cleft charity. Since March 2000 it has provided free cleft surgery for over 500,000 children, particularly in emerging countries where parents are unable to fund the operation. For as little as US$250, and in as little as 45 minutes, this true, modern-day medical miracle can change a child’s life forever. The travel retail industry has donated an estimated US$1.3 million to the cause over the past two years, a figure that is expected to rise sharply this year thanks to the ongoing support of a number of organizations, notably DFS Group, The Estée Lauder Companies Travel Retailing Worldwide and The Patrón Spirits Company.

ABOUT WIT

Women in Travel was created in 2006 to recognise the contribution of women to the travel retail industry. With nearly 300 members, WiT is generating a network for women in all categories and functions within the travel retail channel, as well as providing a forum to share learning and experience.

The group meets at each of the major duty free and travel retail conventions, sometimes inviting a female guest speaker who demonstrates outstanding achievement from within or outside the trade. On other occasions WiT members simply meet to chat, share experiences and make new friends. There is no formal structure, and no joining fee or membership fee.
