SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport retail and dining turnover fell by -6.2% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2021, to CHF159.9 million (US$173.5 million), with airside sales down by -17% and landside sales up by +2.5%. The total is around 40% of the CHF398.3 million turnover figure in the first eight months of 2019.
Airside spend per departing passenger climbed by +10.5% in the January-August period to CHF25 (US$27.14).
In August alone, commercial turnover reached CHF34.9 million (US$37.9 million), a leap of +59.1% on the low levels of a year earlier. Retail and dining figures have grown modestly as travel has resumed, posting month-on-month increases. From CHF16 million in April, sales climbed to CHF20.1 million in May, CHF20.6 million in June, CHF34.6 million in July before a small rise to CHF34.9 million last month. Airside spend in August fell by -8.2% year-on-year to CHF22.90 (US$24.86).

Passenger traffic in August leapt by +119.7% year-on-year to 1.6 million but remained -48.8% lower than in August 2019. Zürich Airport breached the 5 million passenger mark in August for the first eight months (5.06 million), a figure that was down by -24.9% on a year ago.
