45 years in pipe tobacco: Davidoff unveils exclusive tobacco and pipe

Davidoff has created a limited edition pipe tobacco blend and handcrafted pipe to celebrate 45 years in the pipe tobacco business.

Following on from Davidoff’s Sweet Mixture Line, the limited edition 45 years pipe blend features tobaccos from Brazil, Cyprus, Turkey and Malawi and is said to offer consumers “an exciting new taste experience”.

When lit up, the tobacco offers cherry notes paired with spices, plum, vanilla and honey aromas, while the medium brown and light Virgina tobaccos with hints of Latakia are said to stay in the background, leaving the smoker with a “memorable character”.

A new taste experience: the blend features the ‘finest’ tobaccos from Brazil, Cyprus, Turkey and Malawi

The blend features Burley, black Cavendish, Latakia, Zaire RR and Oriental tobaccos, flavoured with cherry/vanilla and rum.

Oettinger Davidoff AG Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Innovation Charles Awad said: “This new Pipe Tobacco limited edition 45 years will delight pipe aficionados seeking to discover new taste experiences. Continuing on our mission to open the aficionado’s world by delivering exciting and surprising blend stimulations, our master blender has crafted a rich and exotic, spicy and fruity blend to fill the aficionado’s time beautifully.”

Only 6,000 numbered tins of the Davidoff Tobacco Edition 45 years have been made and will be available from March at selected appointed merchants and depositaires/Davidoff flagship stores worldwide.

The limited edition 45 years pipe is handcrafted from briar wood from Calabria – the burlwood of the White Heath Tree, typically found around the Mediterranean Sea. Each of the pipes is numbered and is decorated with a 92.5% pure silver ring that emphasises the contrast between the black mouthpiece and the wood grain. The pipe is housed in a black case with a nappa leather pouch inside.

“An ode to Davidoff’s tradition and craftsmanship”: only 45 pipes will be available globally

According to Davidoff, more than 90 steps are needed to create one pipe

Only 45 limited edition pipes have been crafted, and will be available from March at selected depositaires, flagship stores and appointed merchants worldwide before rolling out to Asia in April.

Oettinger Davidoff AG Marketing Director of Global Marketing & Innovation Annette Berthod commented: “This new Davidoff pipe is an ode to Davidoff’s tradition and craftsmanship. Celebrating 45 years in pipe tobacco is a key milestone for the company. As such we crafted an exceptional pipe to mark this occasion and delight pipe aficionados.”

In other news, on Wednesday (10 February) Oettinger Davidoff announced that it has established its own distribution company in Germany, following the termination of the company’s partnership with Arnold André on 31 December. In line with Davidoff’s long-term strategic objectives, the move will focus on the core business, prioritising investment in core markets and developing Davidoff’s brands in the most important price categories.

Oettinger Davidoff CEO Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard said: “Germany is one of Oettinger Davidoff AG’s most important markets. Consequently, we would like to have a presence with our own subsidiary here as well, just as we already do in all our other key markets, such as the USA, Spain, France, Asia etc. We would like to thank Axel-Georg André, Rainer Göhner and the entire Arnold André team for their commitment over the last four years, with which they have marketed Davidoff and all other brands in our portfolio in Germany.”

Senior Vice President Europe & Global Travel Retail Martin Kaufmann added: “The independent structure is intended to make it possible for the German subsidiary to respond more directly to changes in the market, and to be an indispensable business partner for our customers.”
