ISRAEL. Sakal Group has picked up two more retail contracts at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport’s new terminal three, due to open late this year.
The retailer has been awarded the toys and multi-media store and the kid’s fashion specialty shop. The company’s Meir Sakal said that the two tenders are worth around US$320 million in sales over the seven-year contract period.
Sakal Duty Free will operate two shops dedicated to toys and multimedia in approximately 400sq m of retail space at the new terminal. Sakal has been operating toys and multimedia stores since 1997 and will operate a special kid’s and infants area at the welcoming hall outside the duty free zone. This special zone will include an entertainment/playing center and a dedicated area allowing parents to change diapers and breast feeding infants
Sakal Sport will operate two kid’s fashion shops with a total of approximately 200sq m retail space. The first store will be located in the duty free zone and the other at the playing center area, open to all passengers.
Last month the group won the watches and gifts shops tender for T3. And late last year it was awarded the key contract for electrical appliances and electronics.
Meir Sakal said: “The Sakal Group overcame other leading operators in these fields in the tenders. We consider the success as a supplementary step in our consolidation within the duty free market. We believe that winning these recent tenders will improve the customer services at the new terminal.”
The new terminal is expected to open in November 2004. It aims to be one of the most modern of its kind in the world. The new terminal planned surface is 20.000 sq. m. and will include numerous shops and pastime areas.
