Palomino Bar by Milestone’s in Vancouver |
CANADA. Vancouver International Airport’s concession programme has expanded its line-up of brand merchants with the introduction of Subway, Palomino Bar by Milestone’s, and Medallist Bar and Grill by White Spot.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these new merchants to the airport,” said Christopher Gilliland, Manager Retail Sales and Service Programs at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
“Although our numerous independent vendors add a local flavour that is paramount in providing airport visitors with a distinctly West Coast feel and unique airport experience, passengers and the 26,000 Sea Island employees are also excited to see the recognizable brand names that they have come to know and trust outside the airport.”
During its first two weeks of operation in June 2004, Subway at YVR was one of the three busiest Subway locations out of 290 in British Columbia (BC).
Medallist Bar and Grill, which features a Winter Olympics design theme and serves menu items from White Spot – one of BC’s oldest and most recognizable brands – has also been a big hit with passengers and employees since it opened earlier in the year.
Palomino Bar, featuring signature drinks and a selection of food items from the Milestone’s menu, opened on 26 June. It is the anchor food and beverage outlet for the newly renovated A-Pier in the south end of the domestic terminal building.
Background: In addition to these recent openings, YVR is also home to other popular branded concepts such as the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, Roots, Body Shop, a Tundra boutique in the PGA Tour Shop, Hermès, Burberry, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, A & W, Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Pharmasave, BC Liquor Store and 7-Eleven.
YVR’s 7-Eleven, a smaller and more specialized concept store recently recognized by Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) as the “˜Most Innovative Concession’ in an airport, has been so successful that 7-Eleven Corporation has embarked on an expansion programme that targets other airports, hospitals and places where people gather for work or travel. In its first three months of operation, the YVR location sold more Big Bite combos than any other store in North America.
The Merchants at Vancouver International Airport comprises over 140 pre- and post-security shops, services and restaurants, offering a full range of amenities from medical and dental services to banking, duty free shopping and North America’s first airport 7-Eleven. YVR expects to serve some 15.3 million passengers in 2004.
