CANADA. Rob Prince, General Manager of DFS Ventures, the pioneering Canadian land border shop, has been elected as Chair of the Frontier Duty Free Association (FDFA), replacing Heather Howard who steps down after two years. The board line-up was named today during the FDFA’s 20th anniversary convention in Quebec.
The Emerson, Manitoba retailer, owned by Michael Resch, created history when it opened in 1982, kick-starting a land border duty free shop programme that has since blossomed into a C$200 million industry.
Other board members, elected earlier in the week, are to take the following roles:
Treasurer: Jeff Dyer, President, Johnstown Duty Free Shop, Prescott, Ontario;
Secretary: Paul Dickinson, General Manager, Huntingdon Duty Free Shop, Abbotsford;
Vice President: André Beaulieu, Manager Boutique Hors-Taxes de L’Est, Stanstead, Québec
Director: Gene Davis, Manager of North Portal Duty Free Shop, Saskatchewan;
Director: Peter Brain of Blue Water Bridge Duty Free;
