Copenhagen Airport fragrances and cosmetics prices compare favourably with High Street, says new report – 14/06/05

DENMARK. A new report by Danish market researchers Vilstrup comparing 303 randomly-selected perfume and cosmetic products says that prices at Copenhagen International Airport compare favourably with the High Street.

Prices of products sold in the tax free shop at the airport were compared with the recommended sales prices of corresponding products in Danish drug store chain Matas and other shops in the Copenhagen city centre and shopping centres. Different products were selected in each of the five product categories.

Commenting on the findings, Copenhagen Airport Shopping Centre Commercial Vice President Henrik Busch said: “But do you really save any money if you buy perfume and cosmetics at the airport? We get that question once in a while, and it’s nice to have examples of how we are at least -20% cheaper than the shops in Copenhagen.

“Many passengers do their perfume and cosmetics shopping at Copenhagen Airport because the product range we carry is one of Europe’s widest. We supply not only Danes, but also a large number of international passengers, so we need to be competitive in perfume and cosmetics.”

The Vilstrup report shows that men’s and women’s fragrances, skin and body care products, and cosmetics are at least -20% cheaper at the airport than they are in Copenhagen shops.

Here are the findings by sub-category:

Women’s fragrances (perfumes and deodorants): -22.8%
Men’s fragrances (colognes and deodorants):-24.4%
Skin and body care products for women: -23.0%
Skin and body care products for men: -20.9%
Cosmetics: -20.5%
