SSP launches the real food company at Luton Airport – 14/07/05

UK. Passengers at London Luton Airport can now enjoy everything from freshly cooked and carved beef to crisp and crunchy salads following the launch of a new food concept by SSP Air, the UK airports division of the world’s leading airport food & beverage specialist, SSP.

Located within the new £35 million passenger departure facilities which opened this month, the real food company has been designed to meet the needs of all travellers, including people in a hurry as well as those with more time to savour the experience.

An on-site bakery prepares freshly baked cakes and muffins; the deli counter serves fresh salads and sandwiches; freshly cooked meat is on offer at the carvery and a juice bar brings a touch of theatre, with orange juice being freshly squeezed and a chocolate fountain for dipping fruit kebabs or croissants – described as a must for chocoholics.

The choice of food is made easy and speed of service increased by the food offer being split into seven instantly-identifiable sections:

• grab.me – a selection of ready prepared sandwiches, salads, drinks and snacks for customers on the move
• bake.me – a selection of freshly baked cakes, pastries and muffins
• make.me – a deli bar with something to satisfy everyone’s cravings
• grill.me – a carvery with freshly cooked meats served with a variety of specially selected rolls, crisps and pickles
• squeeze.me – the theatre of the real food company with staff squeezing fresh orange juice for customers
• yum.me – delicious ice cream
• drink.me – a choice of hot or cold drinks

Simon Turl, Managing Director of SSP Air, said: “the real food company is the result of an extensive study of travellers’ requirements and eating patterns that involved us in working closely with London Luton Airport management. It has been designed as a fast but high quality fresh food offer and we believe it will be very well received by customers and we’re looking forward to introducing it at other airports.”
