Villars duty free sales hit a sweet note – 25/04/08

SWITZERLAND. Bonardo Travel Retail (BTR) will unveil a number of new gift packs from Swiss chocolate brand Villars at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition next month (Stand number: L9).

These include a 260g box of milk and dark chocolate pralines called Les Bûchettes and a 280g box of liqueur chocolates called Les Larmes de Liqueurs. The liqueur chocolates contain fillings of Kirsch, edelweiss liquor, Williams brandy, apricot brandy and Cognac.

Meanwhile, sales of Villars chocolate in duty free have increased by over +35% for the period between January and March 2008 versus the same period in 2007, BTR reported.

“This is another huge increase after an already golden year in 2007,” said BTR Managing Director Alain Bonardo, who is confident that 2008 budgeted figures will be exceeded.

Asian and South American retailers are doing particularly well, he added, and new listings have been announced in Malaysia, Singapore, Panama, Chile, Paraguay, Brazil and Jordan.

“Premium quality ingredients scrupulously respecting the great Swiss chocolate tradition as well as the strong Swiss identification are probably the keys to our success,” Bonardo enthused.

The Villars brand is exclusive to travel retail and retailers do not have to compete with downtown supermarkets, according to the company. Best-selling items include the Napolitains assortment as well as the Gourmet 200g bars assortment. The Gourmet range offers seven varieties of tablets each containing 30% selected dried fruit.
