‘A marketplace for major brands’ – Hamburg Airport Plaza set for 4 December opening – 17/10/08

GERMANY. The new Hamburg Airport Plaza will officially open on 4 December, with the public getting its first experience of the new building and its retail and food & beverage offer on 29 and 30 November.

The Nuance Group will operate 11 fashion and accessories shops spread over a total of 960sq m, with the shops opening in two phases. The Hamburg operation will be the company’s first in Germany.

26 November will see Nuance open six outlets covering 555sq m. Five of these shops will be located in the new Airport Plaza: Temptation offering high-quality Swiss watches, bags, sunglasses and fashion jewellery, with shop-in-shop concepts for Swarovski, Thomas Sabo, Guess and Ck; Paul & Shark; Lacoste; Marc O’Polo; and Porsche Design. Street One will be located in the airport’s all visitors’ area, across from the newly opened local train station.

In a second phase, Nuance will be opening a further five stores across 405sq m of shop floor: Fashion, with 181sq m dedicated to the luxury brands Bally, Escada, René Lazard and MCM, selling clothing, shoes and stylish accessories; dedicated shops for the Stefanel and Tommy Hilfiger clothing brands; a Palmers shop for luxury lingerie; and a Dixons electronics shop, specialising in entertainment electronics and travel accessories for computers and mobile telephones.

The Nuance Group Europe Operations Director Stephan Salvisberg said: “It is rare that an airport should give so much thought to the optimisation of the shopping offer when designing its new infrastructure. I am convinced that Hamburg Airport Plaza will be creating a name for itself as a shopping destination for travellers within no time at all. We are pleased to contribute to this experience through our comprehensive offer of leading brands.”

Temptation, a 125sq m multi-brand accessories concept, offers sunglasses, watches, fashion jewellery and handbags

Hamburg Airport Head Center Management Dr Thomas Immelmann added: “From the very beginning The Nuance Group has impressed us through their professionalism and their impressive portfolio of brands. Our cooperation so far has been defined by a spirit of partnership and flexibility. We look forward to surprising our passengers with our shopping offer time and again – together with our partner, The Nuance Group.”

Valora Retail, a prominent player in the books and newspaper trade at airports and railway stations, will launch its “˜Print On Demand’ service in its new 350sq m “˜k presse + buch’ store.

Customers can choose from around 700 international daily newspapers and have the current edition of their favourite titles printed immediately in newspaper format on special paper.

The wide product range will be complemented by a shop design based on the latest research into shopping behaviour and “a harmonic, relaxing ambience”.

“With these two firsts, k presse + buch is launching the next dimension of newspaper and book retailing. As a Hamburg-based company, we are proud of the trust Hamburg Airport has shown in us, allowing us to go down exciting new paths,” said Valora Retail Germany Managing Director Lars Bauer.

Hamburg Airport CEO Michael Eggenschwiler concluded: “With The Nuance Group and Valora Retail we have two successful global players in airport retail onboard. I am thrilled that the opening brings with it two German premieres: The Nuance Group is opening its first German stores and Valora Retail is offering its practical Print On Demand service to customers in Germany for the first time.

“Both companies will make a significant contribution to making Hamburg Airport a marketplace for major brands.”
