US/DUBAI. US-based jewellery company Gold Silk Inc has announced the opening of a new office in Dubai as part of its brand expansion strategy.
In product development news, the company is set to launch a new jewellery collection for children at the TFWA Asia Pacific show in Singapore next month (Stand number: B10).
Gold Silk Inc President and CEO Nasib Thabet has appointed Marwan al Refai as Regional Manager for the Middle East, responsible for all operations in the region. He will be based in the full-service Dubai office.
Thabet stated: “Marwan carries his many years of experience in Middle East travel retail to Gold Silk. He is a true professional bringing exemplary credentials, cultured relationships, and integrity to our brand.”
Commenting on the decision to open an office in Dubai, Thabet said: “The Middle East is a significant market region, and our brand and client base there is growing. Most important is that the needs of our clients, such as direct communication, customer service, delivery and logistics, will be efficiently and effectively served from an office in the region.”
He added: “From a long-term perspective, and as the economy becomes positive, our regional presence with the foundation Gold Silk has developed, will be advantageous.”
2009 plans for the Gold Silk brand include an additional product line, new eye-catching retail display units and a comprehensive website launching this month.

Storybook Jewels children’s jewellery collection
“Our new Storybook Jewels collection has been under development for some time and is now ready for the market,” said Thabet. “The market testing and pre-market reaction has been overwhelming and positive. We couldn’t be more delighted and energised to present Storybook Jewels as a new merchandising entity to the worldwide travel retail industry.”
Storybook Jewels consists of matching necklaces, bracelets and earrings that can be purchased separately, or as an ensemble. It is targeted as a gift item for girls ranging in age from five years to pre-teens.
“Gold Silk created this collection as something every travelling parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or family relative can bring back as a special gift to a young girl back home,” enthused Thabet.
The styles are crafted in 925 sterling silver and feature a selection of fresh designs, with bright and soft-coloured pastels. It also includes an assortment of colourful enamelled characters.
Storybook Jewels is offered as complete retail turnkey package, with an eye-catching display unit, gift boxes and in-store marketing collateral. “We wanted to bring something to the marketplace that was both adorable and affordable,” concluded Thabet.
The retail price points run from €29 to €49.
