AUSTRIA. Austrian eyewear company Silhouette International will present its 2010 sunglasses collections, including new models from the Silhouette and adidas eyewear brands, at the TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore.
For the Silhouette brand, the company is introducing the 18-model SUN Collection based on nature, which it touts as one of the big trends for 2010. The collection’s rimless sunglasses are said to integrate themselves into the wearer’s look with natural harmony.
The colour hit of the year – green – has a deeper, darker variation – in lenses as well as in temples – and softened in a new shade called Earth. Other colours include brown and blue-grey. Models range from glamorous and classic to romantic and poetic, depending on the wearer’s individual style.
The SUN Dreamwings model has soft ornamental elements. The light, airy design comes in grey, earth and apricot colours.
SUN Titan Minimal Art is available with five different lens forms and eight colour variations. In 2010, these classic sunglasses – the only eyewear worn by NASA astronauts on their space missions – will be celebrating their 10th anniversary.
SUN Mystero plays with light and shade, as matt ornamentation accents the gleaming temples and emphasises the soft aesthetics and rimless design.
The sporty SUN Dimension model has soft temples and a wraparound design. The polarised lenses are said to provide perfect protection from the sun’s rays.
Silhouette has exclusively developed IQ POL polarised protective lenses – used in 10 models in the 2010 SUN Collection – to eliminate disruptive reflections, which can be strenuous on the eyes. Eyes are said to tire less quickly and can relax even in heavy glare, without compromising sensitivity to colour and contrast.

adidas eyewear’s new retego sunglasses were developed with the British golf professional Justin Rose |
NEW FROM ADIDAS EYEWEAR
retego – for the golf enthusiast
The new retego from adidas eyewear has been developed with the British golf professional Justin Rose, boasting an innovative frame design and first-class filters to deliver clear vision. Colours include matt black and grey, pearl white/black, matt silver/grey and brown.
The lightweight and flexible frame is made of SPX material with Flex Zones integrated in the frame. The Traction Grip material at the end of the temples is claimed to ensure optimum grip. If the Quick-Release Hinge system is placed under excessive strain, the temple detaches from the frame, and it can simply be clicked back on again. The temples were designed especially to sit flat behind the ears for comfortable wear under a cap or a visor, without getting in the way.
The specially curved filters are designed for golf, providing a wide angle of vision and protection for the eyes. A wide range of filters means you can see as clearly as possible in all weather conditions, according to the firm.
TERREXpro – for the alpinist
adidas eyewear worked closely with mountain sports professionals to develop the TERREXpro, which aims to provides mountaineers with clear views and protection in all kinds of weather. Some of the names behind the development of the TERREXpro include the world-leading mountaineer Robert Jasper, together with other elite outdoor athletes such as Thomas and Alexander Huber, Tomaz Humar, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Albert Leichtfried.
One of the principal technical innovations in the TERREXpro is the removable twin filter, which has its own bridge. The twin filter, equipped with ClimaCool ventilation technology, keeps moisture or cold air away from the eyes, even in extreme temperatures and heavy precipitation. This, along with the anti-fog coating of the front filter is said to ensure that the eyewear neither mists up nor freezes.
In addition, the TERREXpro uses high-quality filter technology to increase the clarity of vision. The filters are made of an extra-light, scratchproof and virtually unbreakable polycarbonate. The Vision Advantage PC filters meet the standards of optical quality class 1 and claims to provide 100 % protection from UVA, UVB und UVC. Three filter options are available: the LST active filter, the dark Space Lenses and the LST vario.
The TERREXpro is made of the ultra-light and temperature-resistant SPX material. The frame design – with the broad temples – and the eight-base wrap of the filters provide a close fit around the eyes, protecting them from intense solar radiation, glare and dust.
The TRI.FIT system allows the temples to be adjusted to three positions, while the Traction Grip material provides optimum grip at the end of the temples. The Quick Release Hinge system is said to ensure that the temples come away rather than break when subjected to excessive force, and wearers can then simply re-attach them to the frame. Double-Snap Nose Bridge allows the bridge to be set at two levels and adapted to the shape of the nose.
davao – casual style for sports aficionados
The new davao is a sporting, performance-casual model that aims to combine a cool design, optimum fit and eye protection.

Made of SPX material, the davao has Flex Zones integrated into the frames to offer flexibility and match the glasses to the shape of the head. The Traction Grip material on the temple ends ensures that the glasses sit in place. Under severe loads, the patented Quick-Release Hinge system releases the temple from the frames without breakage.
Filters available include the LST active silver and the LST contrast with enhanced contrast for on the greens. The davao is also available with polarised filters, which eliminate the light reflected from surfaces such as water or sand. In addition the lenses offer enhanced contrast and colour perception, making it suitable for water sports fans. All the filters are optical Class 1 and guarantee complete UVA, -B and -C protection, the company said, while the curves of the filter provide both panorama vision and a laid-back look.
If required, these casual models can be fitted with optical lenses for people with defective eyesight. The davao will be available in modish white, black, brown, navy blue and military.
