NEW ZEALAND. International passenger volumes (excluding transits) continued to show strong growth in March at Auckland International Airport, with a +3.9% year-on-year increase to 568,386 passengers.
Including transits, total international passenger numbers totalled 632,308 – a +2.7% increase over the same period.
The airport attributed this performance to the increase in Australian visitors, which continued to show sustained strength versus the prior year. Australian arrivals grew +15.8% to 60,320 in March, reflecting a combination of lower fares, increased competition and the continued attractiveness of short haul holidays, Auckland Airport said.
Top arrivals by country of last residence include Korea (+28.3%) and Hong Kong (+33.4%), while Chinese arrivals dipped -16.7%.
5,708,709 international passengers have passed through Auckland Airport in the financial year to date, a +0.4% increase on a year earlier.
