KOREA. Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) has teamed up with the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation to promote traditional Korean culture to passengers at the airport.
Conceived ahead of upcoming international events such as the G-20 Seoul Summit in November, IIAC has organised a special event re-enacting the customary “˜Walk of the Royal Family’ originating in Korea’s Joseon Dynasty.
Commencing on 5 July until the end of the year, the cultural performance takes place on departure at the passenger terminal twice a day, at 11.30am and 5pm. It has already been successfully performed at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, IIAC said.

The parade is made up of 23 cast members including the “˜King’ and “˜Queen’, and a number of different stories are performed. Through the event, the lives of Joseon royal families come alive thanks to performers dressed in the royal costumes of ancient times. Passengers are also able to join in the act, with the opportunity to try on the traditional costumes of Korea.
93 IIAC employees, including President & CEO CW Lee, also partook in the festivities by participating in the parade as the King, Queen and royal servants, delivering a cultural experience and impression of the airport directly to its passengers.
With “tremendously positive” responses from the participants, IIAC plans to extend the invitation to participate in the event to all airport employees. The parade route will also be expanded to the airport’s transfer area.
During the summer season over 2,000 passengers enjoyed the parade each day and took photos with the costumed performers.
Since the parade is taking place near the Traditional Korean Cultural Experience Zone and Traditional Culture Experience Center, the airport hopes to kick start it as a new cultural venue, offering passengers cultural and artistic programmes.
