Egyptair Duty Free Shops unveils new-look Hurghada store

Egyptair Duty Free’s bright, modern, new-look store at Hurghada Airport

EGYPT. Egyptair Duty Free Shops has unveiled a new-look 450sq m store at Hurghada Airport. The company, which operates the business across its national network with management consultancy services from Aer Rianta International-Middle East, was granted additional space because of an extension of the airport terminal.

The new outlet, which opened last month, carries a big emphasis on fragrances & cosmetics. The key performing brands in this category have been given additional space, while some new brands have also been introduced.

The other key categories are liquor, tobacco and confectionery. Amid the extension and renovation the retailer has also relocated toys, travel goods, jewellery, watches and accessories.

It has also created a stand-alone location for the introduction of Bijoux Terner in this area, targeting the consumer with a lower-price option. This provides a well priced alternative, said the company, “to the abundance of cheap souvenirs available in various parts of the terminal”.

In the year to date, the four key categories have all outperformed last year with the highest gains in confectionery, tobacco, fragrances & cosmetics and liquor respectively. The two biggest categories by sales value are liquor and beauty.

EgyptAir Duty Free & Tourism Vice President Reda Metwali said: “We are delighted with the increase in retail space due to the opening of the extension in Hurghada Airport.

“The creation of an open seating dwell-zone increases our exposure to passengers at the departure gates and provides us with a perfect platform for last minute shopping. For this reason we have targeted the consumer with a selection of our best-selling brands from our key four categories.

“In addition to this we are trialling some fashion and accessories brands in this location, which have shown early signs of success. We have great expectations for our business in Hurghada and we feel confident with the appropriate brand support, we can drive our business here to new levels of success.”

Metwali told delegates at last month’s MEDFA Conference that he expected sales of around US$170 million across its business in 2010, and said the company would hit US$200 million soon.
