SSP to add three new F&B outlets at Valencia Airport

SPAIN. F&B operator SSP has won a contract to operate three new outlets at Valencia Airport’s terminal extension, which is scheduled to open this summer. The eight-year contract is estimated to be worth €7.5 million (US$9.9 million) over the course of the concession.

Of the three outlets, Café & Té, is a well-known brand in Spain with a particularly strong presence in Valencia. Featuring an outdoor terrace, the new concept is to be located in the airport’s Arrivals hall. It will offer a range of snacks such as jamón ibérico (cured ham), mozzarella paninis and potato tortilla baguettes, as well as light meals. The beverage menu will feature a selection of beers, wines, frappés and the classic Spanish chilled drink horchata.

The operator will also open an airside Burger King outlet. SSP’s existing Burger King operation landside at Valencia has achieved high sales figures since it opened, and the new restaurant is expected to improve on that performance.

A Caffè Ritazza store, meanwhile, will be introduced in the check-in hall at Valencia. The concept is to feature a bar area and will offer a range of sandwiches and locally-sourced products, such as Spanish wines. SSP is working with a leading culinary school to add a number of Spanish specialities to the classic Caffè Ritazza menu, including a range of tapas to complement the selection of Spanish wines and beers.

Commenting on the additions to the operator’s business in Valencia, SSP Spain Managing Director Blanca Ripoll said: “This latest win is the last of the four renewals we have been negotiating, and after being successful at Ibiza, Gran Canaria and Tenerife South we’re delighted to have also won here. Having operated here for over 22 years, we have considerable experience of meeting the needs of the traveller in Spain. Winning this new business underscores our credentials as true experts in the Spanish market.”

The operator said it will be using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible and is working closely with a number of local agencies including Alicante Wines, The Valencia Citrus Fruits Regulatory Council and The Valencia Oil Denominación de Origen.

SSP has operated at Valencia for over nine years. The company said that its new business at the airport would create jobs for 50 people.
