Tourvest Duty Free adds new award to annual sales honours

Among the winners at last month’s TASPA awards were (L to R) Emma Dommett, Nozzie Masela, Jaco Botha, Sonia Eitz and Leonard Masurik-Hudson

SOUTH AFRICA. Inflight retail specialist Tourvest Duty Free has introduced a new annual crew competition in a bid to nurture the top sales talent at its airline partners.

The Tourvest Ambassadors and Sales Person Award is to become part of the retailer’s Tourvest Annual Sales Person Award (TASPA) programme, established in 2002. The new award will recognise previous TASPA winners who have taken time to mentor new crew members in skills such as sales techniques, product knowledge and product merchandising.

Announcing the new award at the South African TASPA ceremony, part of a week-long training event held in Centurion last month, Tourvest Duty Free General Manager Sarel Marais said the new initiative would serve to nurture relationships among crew members as well as further develop previous TASPA participants across all TDF’s concessions. The national competitions will continue until November, when the finalists for all the African countries in which Tourvest operates are selected at the regional event.

This year’s TASPA programme attracted high-level sponsorship from Coty Prestige, Glenfiddich and Scorpio Distributors, plus category sponsors Amarula and Patrón.

“This is also the first time that we have been able to attract sponsors to our annual award, enabling a bigger and better format than in previous years,” said Marais. “In fact, the support from sponsors was overwhelming, proving to us that our suppliers place as much emphasis on crew investment and motivation as we do.”

Among Tourvest Duty Free’s international airline partners are British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, along with its home nation’s flag carrier South African Airways.
