GERMANY. Hamburg Airport has awarded contracts to McDonald’s Deutschland and Autogrill Deutschland to operate food & beverage concessions in the Terminal 1 food court.
The awards follow a Europe-wide tender aimed at refreshing the existing food & beverage offer, Hamburg Airport CEO Michael Eggenschwiler said.
Autogrill will operate Italian coffee and bakery concept Puro Gusto while McDonald’s will make its Hamburg Airport debut with a restaurant and integrated McCafé.
The two brands will be located on the Terminal 1 gallery level from spring 2013.
“Top quality, clarity in terms of product origins, and always considering the needs of travellers – these are the characteristics that define both McDonald’s and Puro Gusto. It is a great delight to us that we have been able to attract two such popular brands for our food court in Terminal 1,” said Eggenschwiler.
“This is a positive response to the wishes of our passengers and completes the food & beverage concept at Hamburg Airport.”

McDonald’s: burgers, breakfast and McCafé from spring 2013
The 805sq m McDonald’s restaurant and McCafé will serve numerous familiar products, burgers and specials along with a breakfast range. The new restaurant area will be open daily from 4am to 9pm starting in spring 2013. The large terrace will give guests a direct view of the runways.
McDonald’s will create a Business Zone for business passengers, with power sockets where mobile devices such as telephones and laptops can be charged for free. Free internet access via WLAN will be available for guests throughout the restaurant.
The concept will feature a large play area for younger children with digital entertainment on offer for older children.
McDonald’s will also introduce Easy Order Terminals – touch screen ordering kiosks where customers can order and pay via EC or credit card, and then collect the food from the counter.
The concept design will incorporate wood with stone elements that lend a “natural, warm atmosphere” to the restaurant area.
Puro Gusto: coffee, bakery & fine food with “Italian flair”
Autogrill’s in-house Italian concept Puro Gusto will serve coffee, wine, beer on tap, breakfast and snacks such as paninis, focaccia, antipasti and desserts.
The 361sq m restaurant will offer passengers a choice between a comfortable and relaxing lounge area and express seating for passengers in a hurry. Autogrill said dark timber and modern furnishings will give Puro Gusto a “simple elegance”.
The concept features a terrace with views of the tarmac, and internet access will be available free of charge throughout the bistro.
