The Cube offers new revenue opportunities and can be moved easily and quickly |
UK. Excess Baggage Company has opened two retail concepts under The Cube fascia at London Gatwick Airport. These new solutions, the company said, allows airports to make the best of under-used space and provides temporary retail for airports in transition.
The Cube concept, which provides a range of luggage and other travel essentials, can be closed and moved quickly and easily, providing a range of revenue-raising opportunities, added the company.
At Gatwick, the new Cubes, which are located landside in both the North and South Terminals, have allowed the airport to install a retail offer that is said to “complement and augment” the current landside retail facilities. It also offers a service for the significant numbers of passengers who may need to re-pack before their flights – particularly those using airlines with stringent baggage limits.
Excess Baggage Company Managing Director David Elliott said: “Airports often have spaces that are empty which could be used to generate income, or they may be able to help boost income by providing a temporary retail offer (while building new retail outlets, for example or in response to a change in passenger flows). The Cube can also be used to fine-tune the balance of retail between landside and airside areas.”
London Gatwick Airport Business Development Manager, Catering and Services Charlotte Christiansen said: “Our extensive retail offer at Gatwick means we can provide a wide variety of shopping experiences to a broad spectrum of customers. Our new Excess Baggage Cubes mean we have a high degree of flexibility, and are able to maximise commercial opportunities across the terminals as needs evolve.”
