Tokyo Narita Airport opens low-cost Terminal 3: first photos

JAPAN. Narita International Airport (NAA) is reporting a smooth start to retail and food & beverage operations at its new Terminal 3, which opened officially on 8 April.

T3 serves low-cost carriers including Japan Vanilla Air, Jeju Air, Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Airways and Spring Airlines.

First photos showcase a minimalist but innovative approach to interior design, with retail based on concepts tried and tested by NAA Retailing in the two main terminals.

Airside, NAA Retailing has opened a 1,200sq m FaSoLa duty free shop – the largest in the airport – with distinct areas for cosmetics & perfumery and liquor & tobacco.

Adjacent to the main duty free shop are concepts from Fa-So-La Souvenir Akihabara, Fa-So-La Bags and Fa-So-La Watches & Accessories.

Food & beverage airside is limited to a Caffebene café, but landside features the largest food court at a Japanese airport.

NAA claims that the food court is the largest at any airport in Japan

With seating for over 400 customers, the food court congregates a Caffebene café, Miyatake Sanuki Udon and Ringer Hut noodles, Tatsu Sushi, Freshness Burger, Yodonya One Bowl and Botejyu Express teppanyaki.

A sense of fun informs the terminal’s interior design, with the walkways marked out like a running track with blue lanes for departing passengers and brown for those arriving.

LCC flights represented 19.3% of aircraft movements at Narita Airport in the April – September 2014 period, a share that NAA expects to grow significantly.
