TANZANIA. Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) is set to issue tenders for duty free, speciality retail, food & beverage and other passenger service concessions at Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport’s (JNIA) new Terminal 3.
The Passenger Terminal III Complex, scheduled to open in October, is part of a €235 million expansion project aimed at addressing the anticipated growth of international traffic. The terminal will have a capacity of 6 million passengers, leaving the existing international Terminal 2 to cater to domestic flights.
TAA is looking to pre-qualify interested bidders before issuing invitations to bid in March. Pre-qualification closed today 23 February.
Eight opportunities in the new terminal include a duty free concession offering liquor & tobacco; perfumes & cosmetics; watches; gifts and handmade items; sunglasses and electronics.
The food & beverage concession includes restaurants, bars, coffee shops, fast food & snacks, café & ice cream units, vending machines and an employee canteen.
The retail (non-duty free) shops concession includes books & newspapers; brand/fashion outlets; gifts, souvenirs and handmade items; and a telecom/mobile phones/cards shop.
Other opportunities include a standalone jewellery concession, foreign exchange kiosks, spas, advertising and car parking.
The airport company aims to provide passengers with a wider choice and better range of services while generating more revenues to improve airport services.
TAA specified that local companies may bid in a joint venture with foreign firms.
TAA’s Passenger Terminal III Complex expansion plan commenced in 2013. Phase 1 comprised the construction of the main terminal building – facilitating 3.5 million annual passengers. The second phase, set to complete in October, will expand capacity to 6 million annual passengers, as noted above.
The roof of the terminal is designed to resemble traditional sailing boats that can be found plying off the coast of Dar es Salaam.
