Alitalia and gategroup sign long-term contract for Rome-Fiumicino International Airport catering services

ITALY. Italian national flag carrier Alitalia has signed gategroup to a long-term contract for the provision of catering services at Rome-Fiumicino International Airport. It covers both the airline’s domestic and international flights.

The contract extends a working relationship between the two companies, signed in December 2017, which covers flights from four other Italian airports – Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Catania and Palermo.

Gategroup’s working relationship with Italy’s largest airline now extends to five Italian airports.

Gategroup said the new agreement will significantly increase logistics efficiency. Its Gate Gourmet Italy brand will serve Alitalia at the airport in a new, dedicated 8,000sq m facility and will employ approximately 300 staff.

Commenting on the new agreement, gategroup Chief Commercial Officer Federico Germani said: “Both our companies share a passion for enhancing and improving the customer experience, which is further amplified by the rich culinary heritage of Italy.

“The desire to develop and improve every aspect of the service offering was key to the successful, swift and seamless set up of the new facility. We are honoured to have been able to meet Alitalia’s high culinary standards as part of enhancing the customer experience.”

Alitalia CPO Valerio Dal Monte said: “The choice of Gate Gourmet was based on its ability to support Alitalia to achieve its strategic targets of increasing customer satisfaction and logistical efficiency. Their culinary excellence, innovative new concepts and retail experience enables us to accelerate the change process.”

Alitalia operates 16 long-haul flights and 189 short- and medium-haul flights per day from Rome-Fiumicino.
