Bali Airport announces widespread tender amid projections of strong 2021 tourism bounce back

INDONESIA. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International (Bali) Airport has announced a wide-ranging tender for commercial spaces across its entire international and domestic terminals through The Moodie Davitt Report.

The selection of commercial area business partners will be carried out in two phases by airport company PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero). The Moodie Davitt Report will track the process from today’s launch through to the contracts being awarded.

Phase 1 (RFQ) will take place from 22 May to 12 June 2020 (RFQ), offering 23 selection packages. The Phase 2 RFQ will happen between 15 October and 6 November and will involve ten selection packages.

The tender comprises three main business categories – retail; duty free; and food & beverage (F&B) and services.

Optimism for tourism despite 2020 COVID-19 impact

The airport company said that there was “tremendous potential” for business partners as I Gusti Ngurah Rai International is one of the few airports in Indonesia to have recorded positive passenger growth in 2019 amid a widespread decline in traffic elsewhere. The airport served 24.1 million passengers in 2019, a +2% increase year-on-year.

Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, recently projected that the COVID-19 pandemic will end in the country by late 2020 and predicted a strong leap in tourism in 2021. While the pandemic has seen domestic and international travel plans postponed this year, Bali will see a big rebound in tourist traffic in 2021, Persero said.

“On this occasion, Bali International Airport, as the main gateway for Bali tourism, will re-open the opportunity for national and international business partners to join and run their businesses in the commercial area of the airport,” Persero said.

“In an effort to support the development and growth of Bali tourism through world-class airport services, Bali Airport intends to present unforgettable shopping experiences and facilities to its passengers.”

“Bali is an island of a million charms that has become a magnet with extraordinary allure, which every year attracts travellers from all over the world to come to this Island of a Thousand Temples,” Persero said. “It is a beautiful blend of nature and magical culture, which are the main attractions for visitors to the island.”

In 2019, Bali was named number one tourist destination in Asia in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice awards (in 2017, the island was named ‘World’s Best Destination’ by the same source). In 2018, Bali was ranked 19th in Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index.

In 2019, Bali International Airport achieved notable recognition from Airport Council International (ACI) based on the association’s annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Survey. It was awarded Best Airport in Asia Pacific in the category of 15-25 million annual passengers; Best Customer Service in Asia Pacific and Best Infrastructure and Facilitation in Asia Pacific in the same passenger traffic band.

“Leading on from those various 2019 awards, Bali International Airport is now inviting national and international business partner to jointly provide an unforgettable shopping experience for airport guests,” the company concluded.
