Düsseldorf Airport calls tender for four consumer technology stores

GERMANY. Düsseldorf Airport is seeking a partner to manage four consumer technology stores across 270sq m of space, under a seven-year contract. The stores are situated both airside and landside.

The airport company said in a statement: “As part of a Europe-wide invitation to tender, a new supplier from the electronics sector is sought.

“The airport is looking for an innovative contractual partner with industry know-how for long-term cooperation. The new operator should not only deliver a high-quality and appealing product range to meet the high customer expectations, but also be open-minded to innovation and willing to jointly develop new concepts.”

Düsseldorf Airport is looking to consolidate partnerships for its key retail operations for the years ahead, with a seven-year electronics concession and a ten-year duty free contract available via tender

The airport is set to publish relevant documents on the ‘Subreport ELViS’ tenders portal. The winning candidate is expected to begin operations in Spring 2022.

Düsseldorf Airport told The Moodie Davitt Report that the stores included those won in 2019 by Martin Kirschner GmbH, with Schäfer Airport Retail as partner. The stores have been closed since Spring this year, after Martin Kirschner GmbH filed for insolvency with the Bonn District Court on 1 April. In statements made at the time, the company blamed the impact of the pandemic and the sharp drop in sales caused by reduced flight operations.

As reported, Düsseldorf Airport issued a tender in July seeking a partner to manage its five core category duty free units (currently run by Dufry), with the bid deadline in the third week of September.
