SSP is named F&B master concessionaire at China’s Huaguoshan Airport

CHINA. SSP Group has been named master concessionaire for the development of the F&B offering at China’s new Lianyungang Huaguoshan International Airport.

The three-year contract, which can be extended for a further two years, will see SSP operate five concession units – two landside and three airside – at the airport which serves the port city of Lianyungang in the Jiangshu region. Still in the first phase of construction, Huaguoshan will be the region’s third-largest airport when it is completed.

SSP plans to introduce a mix of international brands, including its own concepts and popular local favourites.

Ritazza and Burger King are already welcoming customers at Lianyungang Huaguoshan International Airport

The line-up includes fast food chain Burger King; SSP’s Italian-style coffee brand Ritazza; A’Xiang Rice Noodle – which boasts over 600 downtown stores across China – and Rong Li Ji, a specialist in Sichuan cuisine “with a modern twist”.

The collaboration with Rong Li Ji marks SSP’s first venture with the well-known Chinese brand. Further spaces are expected to open at other locations across the region at a later date.

“Reflecting how customer experience expectations have shifted since the start of the pandemic, the F&B units will be self-service and mobile ordering enabled,” SSP Group said in a statement.

SSP CEO Asia Pacific Jonathan Robinson said: “Our partnership with Huaguoshan Airport enables us to demonstrate our expertise and commitment to adapting to meet changing customer expectations.

“Over the past two years, we have seen a marked shift in the way customers wish to interact with F&B outlets. With this latest contract win, we endeavour to elevate the experience that customers have come to expect from us through the implementation of digital ordering services.

“Passengers that visit Huaguoshan Airport can now order from their favourite local and international brands in the way that suits them.”

Rong Li Ji, A’Xiang Rice Noodle, Burger King and the first of two Ritazza spaces are now welcoming customers. A second Ritazza is set to open in the international terminal later in the year.
