FINLAND. Finnair will stop inflight sales of cosmetics, accessories, gifts and other retail products on 28 February in an effort to reduce aircraft weight. Pre-order shopping ends on 17 April.

The Finnish airline said passengers can continue to pre-order meals and buy snacks and beverages onboard. Finnair Plus members may still buy Finnair Plus awards and products as well as home delivery products from Finnair Shop as before.

The airline has launched a final discount campaign starting 1 February which offers passengers a -40% discount on onboard or pre-order items until 28 February and 17 April respectively.

Among the travel retail brands included in the offer are La Mer, Hugo Boss, Rokua Skincare, Estée Lauder and Balmuir.

Finnair passengers have a final chance to shop for their favourite travel retail items from different brands before 28 February

Inflight shopping is available on Finnair’s long-haul flights, and flights to the Canary Islands, Dubai, Egypt, Iceland, Israel, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK. Customers can pre-order products for all flights with a duration of over two hours. Travel retail is not available on the Doha route.

Finnair Head of Product Offering Valtteri Helve said: “Onboard and pre-order shopping has become a less important service among our customers.

“Already in spring 2020, we announced that we would discontinue inflight sales on our flights within the EU as part of our goal to reduce the overall weight of the aircraft, and now it is time to take the next step. Food and beverage sales on flights will continue, of course, and we will continue to develop our service.”
