NORTH MACEDONIA. TAV Airport Holdings subsidiary BTA – which operates food & beverage outlets in airports across eight countries – has opened the 18th venue for its bakery concept Cakes&Bakes at Skopje International Airport.
The 290sq m landside store (pictured below) – which offers more than 150 products including vegan, gluten-free and local delicacies – can accommodate up to 143 guests.
The opening ceremony was attended by Skopje Airport General Manager Metin Batak and BTA Chief Operating Officer Baha Bülbül, alongside airport employees and passengers.
Bülbül said: “We are delighted to open the 18th branch of our Cakes&Bakes cafés, which offers our passengers a comfortable and modern environment where they can have a delicious break. Skopje Airport is an important hub in the Balkans, and is in continuous improvement.
“As BTA, we are working to respond to the expectations of our passengers in the best way with the experience we have gained here for more than ten years.”
The venue is adorned with works of art by Emre Namyeter, Nevin Taşkıran and Ece Zeber.

Emre Namyeter, a sculpture artist with a wealth of national and international exhibitions under his belt, has contributed a 180cm sculpture, created specifically for the store.
Ceramic artist Nevin Taşkıran has created the artwork titled ‘The Iris Ebruli Lucky Charms’ using a marbling technique. The artwork is decorated with 22-carat gold luster and has been produced, in the words of BTA. “with a principle to protect the sense of trust and peace, increasing the spiritual depth of the store”.
Finally, illustrator Ece Zeber has created a 9m artwork incorporating ‘Miracle of the Core’ and ‘The Golden Treasure of the World’ for the Cakes&Bakes interior wall, to add another focal point for guests.
BTA serves around 2,500 passengers every day across eight locations at Skopje Airport, which had 2.2 million passengers last year.
