CHINA. Wangfujing Duty Free is stepping up preparation for the Grand Opening of Wangfujing International Duty Free Harbour City in Wanning, Hainan province on 8 April following a successful trading period since the soft opening on 18 January.
Wangfujing Duty Free said it has been working hard to bring a combination of renowned brands and high-quality experiences and services to customers.
The travel retailer also introduced a duty free shopping mini-program in late January to bolster its customer offer.
In-store traffic increased by +128% from the soft opening day to 31 January while sales rose by +67%.
It is estimated that close to 300 brands will be launched during the official opening, covering nine major categories.
These include fragrances, jewellery and watches, wines & spirits, outdoor sporting equipment, food, digital and home appliances, toys and health products.
Among them, 20 brands will be making their Hainan debuts, bringing consumers a greater diversity of duty free shopping options, Wangfujing Duty Free said.
In addition, the company’s first cross-border ecommerce experiential store was officially unveiled at the Beijing Scitech Premium Outlet Mall in January, while the cross-border ecommerce mini-program ‘WFJ Global Shop’ was also launched.

As reported, parent company Wangfujing Group was granted official approval in October 2022 to open its first Hainan offshore duty free store. Wangfujing said that the duty free business has been marked as the top priority for the company to accelerate its development. ✈
