Heinemann Australia plans to extend domestic terminal reach to Gold Coast Airport

AUSTRALIA. Heinemann Australia plans to open a 200sq m store at Gold Coast Airport’s Domestic Terminal, led by beauty and fashion & accessories.

The move was revealed by Heinemann Australia Managing Director George Tsoukalas at the Australian Airports Association Retail & Commercial Forum in Brisbane last week (17-19 July).

Other speakers included Adelaide Airport Head of Retail Ilona Rose and Mecca Brands CFO Sylvain Baudens (right), with The Mercurius Group Managing Director Ivo Favotto (left) moderating.

The move will extend the Heinemann reach at domestic terminals, which begins in coming months at Sydney Airport T2 and T3, as announced previously.

Beauty and fashion will be the focus at the Sydney terminals. In T3, the emphasis will be on premium and luxury end brands across both categories.

In T2, the largest terminal in Australia by passenger volume, Heinemann is “re-engineering the customer journey” said Tsoukalas. “We will have many points to stop and engage customers. We are redesigning the experience entirely. T2 has the major beauty brands, we will launch luxury beauty brands that were not there before, we will introduce haircare, services – a blow bar, a brow bar, an eyelash bar, plus treatments. And we’ll place a focus on pet care too.

“In fashion we’ll be doing athleisure plus a sneaker concept, an Australia-only wines & spirits concept, gifting will be a big focus. Other drinks concepts will include initiatives with Penfolds and Moët Hennessy.”

Openings at Sydney across both terminals will begin in late August and run to late October, said Tsoukalas.

He added that the company sees domestic terminals representing further opportunity alongside its traditional emphasis on duty free at international terminals.

“It’s about the desire of the partner to create the environment for the domestic customer. For us, it’s about following the traveller, whether they are international or domestic. We can leverage our loyalty programme and are introducing Heinemann & Me to serve the domestic traveller here too.

“Through our online offer you can purchase across our network, pick up or have goods delivered to your home.” ✈
