Sunil Tuli, Group CEO of King Power Group (Hong Kong) and President of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA), has surpassed the targeted US$70,000 for his upcoming hike to Mount Everest Base Camp to raise funds for international cleft charity, Smile Train.
The hike, first announced at The Moodie Davitt Report’s Smile Raising charity dinner in Singapore on 6 May, will see the industry veteran climb to 5,400m over 14 days, starting from 1 September.
As reported, Tuli doubled his original US$35,000 goal in July. In just four days following the official launch of the venture and the unveiling of a dedicated website page, US$35,814 had been raised by midnight on 5 July.
Tuli’s Smile Train Team Empower page shows the latest total at over US$70,500. He shared his delight at the support of his fundraising on LinkedIn and on social media.
“I am so grateful to share that we have reached our astounding goal of raising US$70,000 for Smile Train,” he said.
“As I prepare in the final days before my hike to Everest Base Camp, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has shown their support to both me and Smile Train. I will conquer the mountain proudly, achieving a lifelong dream, with all your thoughts and well wishes spurring me on. Thank you all.”
A life-changing Smile Train-supported cleft surgery can cost as little as US$250-350. You can donate by clicking here. Every cent raised will go directly to the Smile Train clinic at B&B Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, which Tuli and his wife Shikha visited earlier this year. No costs of any kind will come off the total amount raised.
