SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free Shop has launched a large-scale promotional campaign to lure domestic and foreign shoppers planning to travel abroad ahead of the Chuseok festival and China’s Golden Week holiday.

The leading travel retailer organised a line-up of activities and entertainment programmes to celebrate these popular holidays.

Led by its CEO Kim Ju-nam, Lotte Duty Free opened a K-culture experience booth at its flagship store in Myeongdong with some of its staff decked in hanbok (traditional Korean dress).

To give guests a unique Korean experience, the retailer invited them to play traditional games including Jegichagi (an outdoor game) and Ddakji (a game played with folded paper tiles). Shoppers also received free gifts.

Among the guests at the flagship store were Chinese shoppers who were travelling ahead of the busy Mid-Autumn and the Golden Week festivals. The retailer is anticipating a surge of visitors from China during this holiday season.

Lotte Duty Free invited Chinese social media influencer Zhou Zhou (周周) to the flagship store to promote duty free shopping.

The retailer is expecting about 1,000 Chinese group tourists at its Lotte Duty Free World Tower branch on 2 October. This will be the first group of Chinese tourists at the store since the pandemic.

The group will be staying in South Korea for five days and will be visiting Seoul’s famous attractions such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and Seongsu-dong Cafe Street, as well as shopping centres.

For the Chuseok festival, Lotte Duty Free has boosted its promotional offers for South Koreans who are travelling during this holiday period. Promotions include major giveaway events such as a lucky draw, which allows customers a chance to win travel packages. Travellers that make a purchase of any amount at Lotte Duty Free’s downtown stores and online shops have a chance to win these prizes.

From 11 September to 10 October, customers who buy items valued at more than US$250 at the retailer’s physical and online channels will automatically be eligible for entry to a lucky draw. This offers the chance to win a Guam travel package for two, which covers round-trip airfare and accommodation.

Until 31 October, all Lotte Duty Free stores will give away up to KRW830,000 (US$600) in LDF PAY, which can be used as cash, depending on the purchase amount.

From 8-27 September, Lotte Duty Free stores have been rewarding shoppers with LDF PAY worth up to KRW220,000 (US$160) as an early bird Chuseok promotional gift.

The online store is also offering up to -50% discount on products from 11 premium beauty brands, and continues to offer a -30% discount on all Chinese alcohol products until 30 September.

In addition, foreign customers will receive up to KRW260,000 (US$190) in additional LDF PAY for each purchase amount at all Lotte Duty Free downtown stores from the 28 September to 15 October. They can also get scratch coupons for a chance to receive various prizes including KRW8 million (US$6,000) in LDF PAY for purchases of US$1 or more. ✈
