Hong Kong International Airport passenger traffic maintains steady recovery

HONG KONG, CHINA. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) served 40 million passengers in 2023, up by almost +600% compared to a low base in 2022.

The figures were nearly 55% of those recorded in pre-pandemic 2019, according to data released by Airport Authority Hong Kong.

HKIA saw its passenger volume jump by 1.7 times year-on-year to 4.3 million in December. Daily passenger numbers during the busy holiday month were still -20% below pre-pandemic figures.

The airport saw a sharp rise in all passenger segments during the month with Southeast Asia, Mainland China and Taiwan as the top traffic markets.

The airport company said that full traffic recovery is expected by the end of 2024. ✈
