Mumbai International Airport reaches record passenger traffic high in 2023

INDIA. Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) served a record-breaking 51.58 million passengers in 2023. The number was up +35% against 2022 and +10% compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

The airport company said November and December were major contributors to growth, with a single-day record of 167,132 passengers on 25 November.

The airport recorded its highest-ever monthly traffic in December, reaching 4.89 million passengers (+13% compared to December 2022).

Across 2023, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai retained their positions as the top domestic destinations for CSMIA, while Dubai, London and Abu Dhabi continued to be the top international choices.

Among airlines, IndiGo, Vistara and Air India were the domestic market leaders. On the international front, IndiGo, Air India and Emirates maintained their top three positions.

CSMIA expanded its international connectivity to destinations including New York, Lagos, Jakarta, Entebbe and Melbourne during the year. Extra services were also added to key destinations such as Bangkok, Frankfurt, London, Doha and Mauritius.

The regional breakdown of international passengers using CSMIA was led by the Middle East (35%), followed by Australasia (23%), Europe (19%), North America (15%) and Africa (8%). ✈
