GERMANY. Today’s image selection comes from Gebr. Heinemann at Berlin Brandenburg Airport in the capital city, one of the UEFA European Football Championship hosts.

The Euros period, from 14 June to 14 July, saw teams and fans passing through Berlin Airport for matches at Olympiastadion. Gebr. Heinemann ran thematic pop-ups and activities to engage sporting enthusiasts at the airport.

Gebr. Heinemann Managing Director Steffen Jopp noted: “The day of departure after the spectacular European Football Championship final in Berlin’s Olympiastadion marks the end of a very special period for us.

“UEFA Euro 2024 thrilled us with exciting matches, passionate fans and great moments.”

Over 7,000 customers shopped in Gebr. Heinemann shops at Berlin Airport on 15 July, generating an impressive turnover for the retailer.

Jopp commented: “The average receipt was much higher than usual – a sign that our customers were not only numerous, but also enjoyed their shopping experience with us.”

The ‘Giant Trophy’, a 3.2m-high replica of the tournament trophy, was displayed in the Market Square in the security area until the end of the championship.

In a LinkedIn post, Managing Director Steffen Jopp thanked the Gebr. Heinemann team for ‘turning travel time into valuable time’

Decorations in shops and restaurant facilities across both terminals created a sport-centric atmosphere, with fan merchandise on sale. All Euro matches were broadcasted in the Ständige Vertretung in the security area.

The official mascot for Euro 2024, Albärt, delighted passengers at Berlin Airport by posing for photographs and interacting with them.

Jopp continued: “Although we are not the official winners of Euro 2024, we wrote our own little summer fairytale. With creative promotions and a spectacular product range, we delighted our customers and offered them an unforgettable shopping experience.
