Wangfujing Duty Free hosts cycling event and unveils Hainan’s first bicycle-friendly mall

CHINA. Wangfujing (WFJ) International Duty-Free Harbour City hosted the Wave Riding Encounter City Explorer Summer Cycling Event and Bicycle-Friendly Station Unveiling Ceremony in Wanning last week.

Guided by national fitness and green travel initiatives, WFJ Duty Free is bringing its sports-focused, eco-friendly business philosophy to the island with its first bike-friendly shopping mall.

The retailer invites cycling enthusiasts to enjoy a one-stop leisure shopping experience centred on relaxation, interaction, energy replenishment and duty-free shopping, the company said.

The 25km-long Wave Riding Encounter City Explorer Summer Cycling Event – guided by the Wanning Municipal Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports – kicked off on 20 July and saw over 100 cyclists take in various landmarks across the city.

In attendance on the day were Member of the Standing Committee of Wanning CPC Committee and Deputy Mayor of Wanning Yang Zhibin; Wanning Municipal Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports Deputy Director Dang Fujian; and WFJ International Duty-Free Harbour City General Manager Sun Lingling.

Lingling commented: “Today, we are not just hosting an event; we are paving a path that connects people with nature and promotes a low-carbon lifestyle that embodies health and happiness.”

A variety of facilities and services are on offer at the bike-friendly mall, including rest stations and self-service repair kits

WFJ Duty Free said it has “enhanced its image as a trendy sports landmark in Hainan” with the establishment of its cycling station. In addition to planned cycling routes and convenient parking, the retailer also offers exclusive cyclist benefits, including self-service repair kits, sun protection care and dining discounts.

According to the company the addition of an almost 1,000sq m skate park has attracted many enthusiasts, while future plans include adding more cycling gear to create a comprehensive hub for sports and cycling fans.

WFJ Duty Free has more plans to celebrate summer with a series of activities, including the Wanning Summer Livehouse Party, National Street Dance Competition and Youth Show.
