Incheon Airport named preferred bidder to provide consulting services for Long Thành Airport project

SOUTH KOREA. Incheon International Airport Corporation has been chosen as the preferred bidder to deliver management consulting for the new US$13.3 billion Long Thanh International Airport project.

The new airport will be a prime focus at the upcoming Trinity Forum to be held on 5-6 November in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Korean airport company, which formed a joint venture with Vietnamese firm PMI Consulting Service Corporation, beat competition from France’s ADP and Germany’s Fraport.

The project represents Incheon International Airport Corporation’s continued expansion in Southeast Asia

PMI is a local Vietnamese firm charged with implementing the basic design of the new Long Thành International Airport.

As reported, the mega project is located approximately 40km east of Ho Chi Minh City and is being developed over three construction phases to accommodate 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo.

The first US$4.6 billion phase is due for completion in 2026 to serve 25 million passengers.

The management consulting deal will allow the Korean company to conduct airport operation concepts, establish a commercial strategy and provide consulting on test operations.

Beyond consulting, the partner company will support the airport in preparing to start the operations after the project completion, a process referred to as operational readiness and airport transfer. This project will include the establishment of internal operating standards that will play a key role in shaping the passenger experience once the airport is operational.

The new airport will mark a pivotal moment in Vietnam’s aviation history

Incheon International Airport Corporation said the project has attracted “great attention” from international airport operators as it aims to establish global airport operational standards and deliver the best experience to passengers.

The selection was based on a high evaluation process, assessing the company’s expertise in several areas. These include airport construction, as well as operational know-how based on world-class airport services such as winning 12 consecutive World Airport Service Quality awards from the Airport Council International.

The Korean company was also chosen following its successful bids to develop and operate Indonesia’s Batam Hang Nadim International Airport and Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines.

The duration of the project is 24 months from the contract signing date, with an estimated contract value of KRW 11 billion (US$8 million).

Incheon International Airport Corporation President & CEO Hag Jae Lee said: “If we win this consulting project, we expect to secure a new base for overseas business in Southeast Asia. We plan to expand our overseas business with the goal of operating more than ten overseas airports by 2040 and become a true global airport specialist.”  ✈
