GERMANY. Media brand Monocle has partnered with Lagardère Travel Retail to open a store at Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1.
The airside shop forms part of the media brand’s wider strategy to extend its international retail footprint.
As reported, Monocle made its travel retail debut in August 2019 at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1. It was reopened in June last year following pandemic-related closures.
Monocle Chairman and Editorial Director Tyler Brûlé said: “Following the successful launch of The Monocle Shop at Hong Kong Airport, also in partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail, we are delighted to bring the Monocle retail experience to Frankfurt Airport.
“Frankfurt is a gateway to the world and our new shop will be a dynamic place for travellers who value quality journalism, thoughtful design and carefully curated products. We look forward to showing this to the diverse and discerning audience that visits this international hub every day.”
The store offers travellers reading materials including Monocle magazines and books, as well as gifting options and luggage. Monocle-branded travel essentials are also available, along with special brand collaboration products such as luggage, clothing, fragrances and homeware.
Highlighting the company’s commitment to locally manufactured products, it also showcases a special selection of German-made items, including exclusive Mykita sunglasses and Leuchtturm 1917 stationery.
Lagardère Travel Retail Jochen Halfmann said: “We are extremely proud to open the first Monocle store in Germany together with Monocle at Frankfurt Airport. This partnership underlines our commitment to creating innovative and surprising shopping experiences.
“The pop-up store is not only another milestone in our retail strategy but also offers travellers the opportunity to experience the international Monocle brand in all its facets. It is a pleasure for us to offer our customers at Frankfurt Airport this unique and inspiring brand experience.”
Fraport Senior Vice President Retail Jan-Dieter Schaap added: “Monocle is one of the most exciting concepts in the travel retail market right now. We are delighted to be one of the first airports in Europe to be able to expand the retail offering for our passengers with a Monocle store. We are very excited to see what the response to the range will be and can certainly gain new experiences for the future.” ✈
