Multiple brands revealed for Terminal 8 concessions programme at New York JFK Airport

USA. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), with partners American Airlines and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports, has revealed 21 dining, retail, entertainment and amenity brands selected for the US$125 million commercial redevelopment programme at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport Terminal 8.

Involving 13 separate businesses, the concessions include numerous US airport brand debuts.

Eataly will make its US airport debut as part of the Terminal 8 concessions programme. Above is an artist’s impression of how the concession will look.

Among them will be David Chang’s Peach Palace by Momofuku, which will serve up Asian-American cuisine, while New York sandwich shop favourite Alidoro, operated by M&R Concessions, will also open its first airport restaurant.

Other local tastes from New York will include Black Tap Burgers’ Black Tap Singles & Doubles, along with Black Tap Bar and its culinary take on chicken, Tender Crush.

Also bringing New York sense of place are NY Creperie, offering a selection of savoury and sweet crepes; baked goods specialist Zaro’s Family Bakery; tortilla specialist Dos Toros Taqueria; and Caribbean quick-service restaurant Golden Krust.

Global F&B brands include the first US airport location for Eataly, the full-service restaurant and adjoining wine bar serving Italian classics such as antipasti, pasta and Neapolitan pizza. Also in the line-up will be Pret A Manger, Shake Shack, Dunkin’ and Starbucks.

On the retail side, New York-centric gifts will be available through Harlem Chocolate Factory, I Love NY and Dear NYC.

Hudson will operate five travel essentials stores and iPorte, a consumer tech outlet. There will also be a video-gaming lounge from Gameway and private passenger suites managed by Minute Suites.

The 21 concessions announced so far will increase to more than 60, with all units scheduled to open by the end of 2025.

The commercial development programme by JFK T8 Innovation Partners, a joint venture led by URW and certified minority-business enterprise equity partner Phoenix Infrastructure Group, follows the US$400 million expansion of T8.

Completed in November 2022, the newly expanded and modernised T8 is a key component of the PANYNJ’s US$19 billion redevelopment of JFK Airport.

PANYNJ Chairman Kevin O’Toole said: “Airports are the front door to our region and as such it’s important that travellers from around the world get to experience the culture, traditions and diversity that make this region unique while they’re at JFK.

“Empowering local and diverse businesses to join our concessions programme at the airports helps to create the world-class travel experiences passengers have come to expect.”

PANYNJ Executive Director Rick Cotton commented: “Our single-minded focus has been to build a new JFK International Airport that will rival the best in the world, while also generating economic opportunities for the communities nearby.

“At the heart of that effort is the ambitious commercial programme underway at Terminal 8, which will bring together global brands and iconic local businesses that will combine with our public art, branding and architecture to create a sense of place unique to New York.”

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield US Chief Operating Officer Dominic Lowe said: “Terminal 8 is one of the most anticipated commercial redevelopments in the USA. We are grateful to the Port Authority and American Airlines for their partnership as together we create an exciting new energy, vibe and experience that travellers and airport employees will love.

“And most importantly, the new concessions line-up is powered by innovative partnerships that are helping more minority- and women-owned businesses get in the door, grow and prosper at JFK. Today’s announcement is just the beginning.”

American Airlines Vice President of Airport Affairs and Facilities Amanda Zhang commented: “The brands coming to JFK’s Terminal 8 over the next year will make for an unforgettable customer experience. The wide range of dining and shopping offerings means there is something for everyone to enjoy, all while allowing passengers from around the world to get a taste of what Queens, New York City and New York state communities have to offer.” ✈
